This and the following picture are meant to be a diptych. The story before this scene is deliberately ambiguous, as are the woman's intentions, but it can be stated with not too much doubt that her male companion did not know this was going to happen. Whether he is to savour or fear this experience is probably just as much of a mystery to him as it is to us.
